Runners looking for a winter challenge should head out to the West Wight next weekend for the inaugural Chilly Hilly race.

The 10 mile cross country race on Sunday 13th December, takes in some of the most spectacular views and hills that Freshwater and Totland have to offer, including Tennyson Down, the Needles Battery, Headon Warren and Golden Hill Fort. Runners can also look forward to mince pies and mulled wine at the finish line.

It’s being organised by the West Wight Sports and Community Centre and it’s hoped the event will become a permanent fixture on their growing calendar of sports events.

Centre Manager Clare Griffin explained,

“The Needles Half Marathon was so successful this year, we wanted to offer runners another opportunity to race in the West Wight.

“It’s a challenging route, but we also wanted to make it fun so we’ve got a few quirky surprises planned for the day!”

Online entries are £12 via www.westwight.org.uk, or you can sign up on race day for £15.
