On Monday 1st July 2024, the Beach Lifeguards will be returning to our beaches in Ryde and Sandown.
The Lifeguards are on Duty from 11:00 – 18:00 each day, located in Ryde behind The Big Kahuna, and in Sandown in front of The Reef restaurant.
Red and yellow flags
Look for the red and yellow flags on the beach and swim between them. The flags show that it is safe to swim within the flagged area. The Red flag indicates the water is too dangerous for swimming.
Lifeguards protect people who use the sea and beaches in Ryde and Sandown.
Assistance
Lifeguards also help with:
- first aid
- finding lost children
- tourist information
- enforcing by-laws
Enforcing sea by-laws
Additionally in the summer months, the lifeguard service uses its patrol boat or jet ski. This enforces the sea by-laws and keeps the bathing zone clear for only swimming. Please speak to the lifeguard on duty if there is an issue.
Every summer RBLG’s Lifeguards deal with hundreds of incidents and save many lives.
RBLG is part of Waterside Community Trust, a registered Charity 1174631
Todd Miller, Beach Manager, said,
“If you are visiting either Ryde or Sandown this summer, please swim between the red and yellow flags and do come see us if you need any help or advice.
“We are also pleased to have Beach Wheelchairs available at both sites this year, for adults and children, so again please speak to the Lifeguards if you would like to use one of our wheelchairs during your visit.
“Stay safe.”
