After years of waiting for one of their major through roads to be resurfaced, Bembridge residents will finally be receiving the Christmas present they’ve dreamed of this year.
Steyne Road, Bembridge will be closed from its junction with Lane End Road to its junction with Hillway from Friday September 9th until 23rd December for major drainage and resurfacing woks.
Traffic will be diverted through Mill Road, High Street, Church Road, Sherbourne Street, High Street, and Foreland Road.
This closure will not only affect local traffic, but also bus and school bus routes.
In advance of the closure, Southern Vectis have issued diversion notices.
Route 8
The diversion from Ryde for Route 8 and Island Coaster is Crossways, Foreland Road, left into High Street, Mill Road and Hillway Road to rejoin the normal route.
The diversion will operate in both directions. Crossway will be served in both directions.
School buses affected
This road closure also affects the following school journeys:
Route 307 AM will operate to Bembridge (Spinnaker) then divert via Crossway loop, Foreland Road, High Street and Mill Lane to get back onto the normal route at Steyne Cross.
Route 307 PM will operate from Sandown Bay Academy via normal route to Steyne Cross, then divert via Mill Lane, High Street, Bembridge Village one way system, Foreland Road and Crossway loop to then continue with route from Foreland Road.
Route 308 AM will operate to Bembridge (Lane End Road) as normal then divert via Foreland Road, High Street and Mill Lane to get back onto the normal route at Steyne Cross.
Route 308 PM will operate from Sandown Bay Academy via normal route to Steyne Cross, then divert via Mill Lane, High Street, Bembridge Village one way system, Foreland Road and Crossway loop to then continue with route from Foreland Road.
Route 501 AM will operate to Bembridge (Spinnaker) then divert via Crossway loop, Foreland Road, High Street and Mill Lane to get back onto the normal route at Steyne Cross.
Route 501 PM will operate from Island Free School via normal route to Steyne Cross, then divert via Mill Lane, High Street, Bembridge Village one way system, Foreland Road and Crossway loop to then continue with route from Foreland Road.
