If you’ve spotted a bendy-bus on the Island over the last few days, don’t worry, you’re not seeing things.
VB reader, Martin Gibson, got in touch with us yesterday saying that he was sure he’d seen one in South Street, Newport in the morning, so we got in touch with Marc Morgan-Huws at Southern Vectis to find out whether Martin was right, or,in his own words, he was “hallucinating”.
Evaluating for events fleet
Marc told us that SV have been evaluating a bendy-bus for a possible addition to the ‘Go South Coast’ (GSC) Events Fleet.
For those that haven’t heard of it before, GSC is the regional bus part of The Go Ahead Group that covers, among others, Southern Vectis.
Fleet used for summer events
He went on to to say that they have around thirty vehicles in this specific fleet that are used for a wide and pretty continuous run of special events (football, park and rides, festivals, air shows, sporting events, concerts, etc) across the summer season.
Marc went on to say that the fleet moves around across the summer season, but the biggest two events are IW Festival and Bestival, which are also the first and last major events of the season. The fleet is maintained by Southern Vectis here on the Island.
Undecided whether it’ll be used on Island
He finished by saying that, “The current trials are to see if they would be suitable for general events use on the Island, and specifically for IW Festival dedicated shuttle services. The on road trials have been positive, but we haven’t made a decision yet on whether to add any to the Events Fleet.”
