As you now know Kraftwerk will be playing at Bestival this year, so we thought we’d give you a little background.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the importance of Kraftwerk to today’s music cannot be overstated. The translations of the name, Power plant or Power station, is most appropriate.
Formed in 1970, they pioneered electronic music with tight, stripped down synth lines and rhythms. A sound that many people these days may feel must have always existed.
Wanna know what synth music sounded like at the beginning of electronic music? … Tune in below to a rare video of their classic 1974 track Autobahn
Their next track was Radio-Activity (1975)
Trans-Europe Express came along in 1977
1978 brought The Man-Machine (fittingly put to Metropolis in this video)
And the mighty Computer Love all the way back in 1981
If you’ve never seen them – like us – Kraftwerk is one band you’ve got to see before you die. Bestival this year, you’ll have your chance.
