Last month Bianca Wheeler from Ventnor got in touch to tell OnTheWight about a project she was working on to help those living on the streets on the Isle of Wight.
Bianca said,
“I didn’t want the Isle of Wight homeless to be forgotten for another year – so after a few Google searches and a couple of emails to the Salvation Army – I’ve decided to make Blessing Bags for local homeless peeps. Although I’ve only managed seven bags (stuff is expensive!) I plan on making these bags a monthly thing (or thereabouts).”
What’s in a Blessing Bag?
With the help of Blake Everitt, Bianca has been busy making what she’s calling ‘Blessing Bags’.
Essentially, these are bags contain items that will be of practical use to those who live on the streets. They include:
Toiletries; Socks; Gloves; Toothbrush; Comb; Boot Laces; Pad/pen; Tissues; Face Wipes; Mints; Protein Bars; Starbucks voucher for a coffee and a cookie
Well received at night shelter
Last month Bianca and Blake dropped off the bags at the night shelter in Newport and she says they were greatly received.
As reported earlier, the Isle of Wight council have decided to keep the night shelter open until the spring this year.
If you’d like to help with the next set of bags, let us know and we can pass on your contact details.
