Isle of Wight Police report a very busy weekend of activity.
On Friday night, PC Pragnell pro-actively stopped and searched a 26-year-old man in Shanklin and seized these bladed articles pictured.
The man was interviewed and has been summonsed, whilst the items have been destroyed.
Sgt Sharland says,
“These offences are rare, partly because we continue to proactively disrupt and prevent knife crime, discouraging the carrying of bladed articles and keeping our Island safe.”
Thanks to residents
Over in Bonchurch on Friday, residents were praised for supplying hot drinks to officers who were assisting an older woman who’d had a fall. Sgt Sharland said,
“PCSO Downing and PCSO Wheeler spent several hours treating an older woman who fell in Bonchurch, suffering considerable facial injuries.
“Our friends and colleagues in the Ambulance Service were exceptionally busy and I am incredibly proud of my officers stepping in and providing the very best care until an Ambulance could attend.
“I would like to thank the wonderful residents who kindly supplied hot drinks for the injured lady, her family and my officers – what a lovely gesture.”
Drink and drugs
Meanwhile over in Newport Sgt Radford reported a busy Saturday night, mainly dealing with public order issues due to intoxicated individuals. A number of medical incidents called for the Police’s attendance, including a medical incident at a holiday park in Shanklin.
Sgt Radford said,
“Taking drugs is a game of chance and who knows what it is going to do to you.
“The person was left in the care of the ambulance staff and from what I understand they are OK. One person was arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug.”
The Police were faced with similar issues on Sunday and now have a number of people being held in custody at Newport police station.
