Body Found in Solent (updated)

The BBC are reporting that a body has been found in the Solent.

They report that the RNLI brought a body ashore and after police were called 11.40am this morning.

It’s not known how long the body had been in the water but an An investigation is under way.

Detectives have not yet said if the body is that of a man or woman.

Police can confirm they were contacted by HM Coastguard at approximately 11.40am this morning (Monday, November 15, 2010) about a body found in an area of the Solent known as ‘Ryde Middle Bank’.

The man’s body was brought ashore by a lifeboat to West Cowes where it was then transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Detectives from Isle of Wight CID are in the process of tracing next-of-kin.

Formal identification of the body and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
