The body of a man found on the shoreline near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight has been officially identified as that of a missing Southampton man.
He was 43-year-old Douglas Massie from Thackeray Road, Portswood, Southampton and his next of kin have now been informed.
Mr Massie was known to be depressed and had disappeared from his home two weeks ago.
His family received a note through the post on Saturday, August 27 saying he intended to swim from Hengistbury Head at Christchurch, Dorset to the Isle of Wight.
His body was found on the shoreline between Bouldnor and Yarmouth on the Island on Monday afternoon, (August 29). His death is not being treated as suspicious.
