Despite attempts by the residents of Bonchurch to save its only shop – also its only post office – the Pond Stores in Bonchurch has closed its doors for the last time.
Many in the village felt that the loss of the shop would be a significant blow to the fabric of the area – indeed there was some discussion about them coming together to buy the shop.
It’s our understanding that the ex-post mistress will continue to use the building as a home.
What the long-term future of the shop will be is unclear. To alter it from a shop to living accommodation would require the acceptance of a planning application to formally change its use.
