The next monthly installment of the Repair Cafe Isle of Wight will be held on Saturday 20th November at Quay Arts in Newport starting at 10am. 

The Repair Cafe offers the opportunity to have all manner of items repaired, helping to avoid their onward journey to landfill.

Last month we learnt how to darn socks and have been able to save several otherwise perfectly fine pairs of socks from heading to the bin. Not to mention a repair an unexpected large hole in a jacket.

You’ll need to book one of the 30 minute slots based on whether you’re looking for general/wood repairs, electrical or electronic, textiles or jewellery.

Only on the Island can a headline be proud of saving some socks from landfill. What about Fridges, Freezers and the plethora of othe small white goods?

Of course, much more can and must be done. (I took part in the event featured, and have been involved in similar events elsewhere for years, and I did mention the need for more repair cafes in a recent letter (copy to follow) sent to OTW, who didn’t use it, and to the CP, who published a slightly mangled version today).
