An addition to the articles published last night (Monday) on forthcoming budget cuts.
We’ve now seen the full Isle of Wight council cut proposals which have just been outlined in preparation of the December Cabinet Meeting.
Here’s what they say about the School support services …
This area of the budget will come under pressure from two main sources.
Firstly, this area of work has traditionally been supported by ring-fenced Government grants (the majority of which will disappear from 1 April 2011); and secondly, the funding arrangements for academies means that the council controlled element of the Dedicated Schools’ Grant is also subject to reduction as part of the funding from Government.
Senior officers will be discussing with schools the possibility of a three year agreement to sustain some levels of activity which provide support around attendance, curriculum and school development as well as a range of support services (HR, payroll etc.).
The Council will also retain a small team of staff who will lead on any necessary support and intervention where schools are experiencing difficulty with a small budget which will fund on a 50:50 basis with such schools for external support.
However, there will be a significant loss of posts in this area of activity. This will deliver an immediate full-year effect saving of £750,000, from 2011/12 onwards.
