The owner of a cafe whose lease at a Wroxall community hall was terminated with immediate effect has offered to give the charity six months’ notice if she is allowed to return to work.
Aviv Goode, who ran The View Cafe at Stenbury Hall for around 16 months, set out the offer in a public statement issued with her husband Adam.
The offer
In the statement, Aviv said the couple were “pausing before the next legal step” to allow Wroxall Community Association (WCA) “one last chance to resolve this with minimal damage to ourselves, the community, the charity’s finances and reputation.”
She wrote,
“Our request is simple. Allow us to return to work. We will offer in exchange 6 month’s notice on our agreement which gives WCA what they want, and us time to plan next steps.”
She added that neither she nor her husband wanted “to take a charity to court, nor people who we had – until recently – considered our friends.”
The statement said it did not amount to a waiver of the couple’s rights.
Solicitors instructed
Aviv Goode said the couple had instructed a solicitor, who had written to WCA twice. She said WCA had not substantively replied beyond a holding response.
She said their business equipment, stock and personal items remained locked inside the premises, that bookings had been cancelled, and that children had been let down – a reference to the free breakfast club the cafe ran for village children.
The cafe’s rental agreement was terminated by email at 5pm on Thursday 11th September 2026. Aviv has said the locks at the hall were changed overnight without notice, and that she has not been able to access the premises since.
Call for documents to be published
In the statement, Aviv said she believed the community should be able to see the agreement she signed with WCA, the termination letter, and the letter sent by her solicitor. She said she believed minutes of WCA committee meetings should be in the public domain by default.
She questioned whether the community should have a say in how charity funds are spent if WCA incurs legal costs over the dispute.
What WCA has said
WCA, the registered charity that runs Stenbury Hall, announced the termination in a statement issued on Thursday 10th September 2026.
It said that “several relationships have been severely compromised during the last month to a point that is considered beyond repair” and that the charity had therefore ended the agreement with immediate effect.
The statement said that providing a business with space to rent was not a primary focus of the charity, and had cost the charity funds and volunteers’ time.
WCA has not commented publicly since.
