A man has been convicted of murdering 30-year-old Tommy Barton in Ryde.
Police were called to Dover Street in the early hours of the morning on Sunday 28th May where Tommy was found lying in the road with stab wounds to his chest.
A member of the public, supported by police, provided first aid assistance until the ambulance arrived, but after continued life-saving efforts by the ambulance service, Tommy was pronounced dead.
28-year-old charged with murder
Following an investigation, Cameron Baker, aged 28, was charged with murder.
A jury at Winchester Crown Court heard that Tommy attended an address in Park Road to confront Baker as part of an ongoing dispute, before he was stabbed in the street.
Tommy then staggered to Dover Street where he collapsed.
Denied murder
Baker, formerly of Leed Street in Sandown, denied the murder and the case went to trial on Monday 13th November.
On Thursday 7th December, and after deliberating for 14 hours and 12 minutes, the jury found Baker guilty of murder.
Second man found not guilty
A second man who was also charged with murder – 28-year-old Rio Scott of Park Road in Ryde – was found not guilty by the jury.
Baker was remanded in custody to appear at the same court for sentencing on Tuesday 12th December.

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Tommy Barton who was tragically killed by Baker.
“Baker demonstrated a shocking display of extreme violence that has not only led to a young man losing his life, but has destroyed the lives of many others as a result.
“Today’s verdict is a reflection of the commitment of a large number of police officers and staff who worked tirelessly to investigate this incident and bring a case to the Crown Prosecution Service. The collective efforts of all involved in seeking justice for Tommy and his family have now resulted in the man responsible for his murder being convicted.”
