Campaigners against the proposed asphalt plant at Medina Wharf say they will pose a series of questions to PFI highways contractor, Vinci, at their first public meeting tomorrow.
They say they’ll be asking Vinci “a series of questions in order to confirm the recent statements by the Isle of Wight Council”.
Call to publish the PFI contract
Hoping to clarify whether there is any dependency between delivering the PFI contract and the planning application for an Asphalt Plant at Medina Wharf, Wight Residents Against Asphalt Plant (WRAP) say, “We believe that the immediate publication of all documents relating to the PFI Contract is the only way to fully confirm that there are no ‘hidden dependencies’. We believe that these documents should be released ahead of any decision by the Planning Committee.”
Not opposed to improving roads
WRAP say that opponents of the Asphalt Plant are not opposed to improving the Island’s roads.
They added, “We welcome the announcement by the Council that the PFI does not require a new Asphalt Plant. However, by not publishing the contractual documents and refusing to comment on alternative plans, both Vinci and the Isle of Wight Council are fuelling the view that something does not add up: Either the plant is not required for the PFI; or Vinci are unable able to deliver an £850 million contract; or the planning process is considered by Vinci/ Eurovia to be a ‘done deal’.”
We’ll let you know how they got on.
