Most unusually the Wightlink car ferry has been dropping off foot passengers at the end of Ryde Pier, VentnorBlog has been told.
VB friend Bruce called us this afternoon to let us know that in an effort to transport the large number of Bestival-goers over from Portsmouth, many of them had been taken from the car ferry port over to dock at the wet end of the Pier.
Huge queue to get off the pier
This, combined with the people on the usual FastCat service, has led to a massive queue of people trying to get off the pier, as you can see from the photo sent in by Tracy (thanks!).
Bruce said that happily his Wightlink multi-pass meaning that he was able to get to the front of the queue to board the boat. The same applies to season tickets.
He added that there only appeared to be two community support officers on their pier.
Nostalgia
Hearing about it made us think back to the days when the Island was at the peak of its popularity in the 1950s, when huge throngs of people would come over by boat, completely filling Ryde pier, heading for the various beaches of the Island.
