Another of our favourite Island bands, The Chancers have been busy in an underground Ventnor studio for the last couple of days, hopefully laying down some kickass tunes for us to delight in.
It’s just over a year since they first played live and they’ve performed some excellent gigs since then.
In a couple of weeks time, you can see them supporting a rather excellent four piece funk band called The New Mastersounds.
Hailing from Leeds in the late 1990s, The New Mastersounds have notched up some pretty impressive collaborations over the years with DJs, musicians and producers such as …
Lou Donaldson (Blue Note), Corinne Bailey Rae (EMI), Quantic (Tru Thoughts), Carleen Anderson (Young Disciples / Brand New Heavies), Keb Darge & Kenny Dope (Kay Dee Records), John Arnold (Ubiquity), Mr Scruff (Ninja Tune), Snowboy (Ubiquity), Fred Everything (2020vision), Andy Smith (Portishead), James Taylor (JTQ), LSK (Faithless), and Karl Denson (Lenny Kravitz / Greyboy AllStars).
I’m a total sucker for the Hammond and they won me over after just five minutes of looking/listening to their MySpace.
With The Chancers in support, I am at risk of sacrificing the illuminated carnival. Expect some sliding action on the dance floor that night as the leather soles hit the wood.
Tickets for the night are a mere £10 in advance or £12 on the door which open at 7pm. This is a night not to be missed.
