The charity is launching two more Hear to Meet coffee mornings at Cowes Library, Beckford Road, Cowes between 10:30am-12noon on Monday 17 September and Methodist Church, Garfield Road, Ryde between 10am-11.30am on Friday 21 September to give people who are deaf or hard of hearing the opportunity to socialise and share experiences of hearing loss over a tea or coffee.
The coffee mornings will take place in Cowes on the third Monday of each month and in Ryde on the third Friday of each month – see Events On The Wight for monthly listings.
Action on Hearing Loss is also launching its 20th monthly hearing aid support drop-in clinic in partnership with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust at Godshill Methodist Church, High Street, PO38 3HZ between 10am-11.30am on Thursday 27 September. The drop-ins will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month.
What to expect
Trained volunteers, many of whom have a hearing loss themselves, will be carrying out basic maintenance on hearing aids, such as replacing tubing and batteries, as well as providing advice and information at the drop-in sessions.
Visitors will discover how to get the best performance from their NHS hearing aids, so that they can hear more clearly and improve communication with friends, family and colleagues.
Hearing loss can be isolating
Ann Emery, who has just been appointed as the charity’s Service Manager, says: “Hearing loss can be isolating – especially if you’re struggling to hear everyday conversations with friends and family.
“We’re delighted to launch our new Hear to Meet coffee mornings in Cowes and Ryde and our hearing aid support drop-in clinic in Godshill to support local people and give them the chance to meet and make friends with others who understand how hearing loss affects their everyday lives.”
