Last Thursday in the Ventnor East Town Council Elections, Chris Welsford, Standards-Not-Tiers Chairman, was voted by the public onto the Town Council
Mr Welsford said:
“Being elected is a great honour and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I know from the messages of support that I have received following the election that many of you support SNT and our aims which is very heartening. As my views on the schools have been clearly expressed, there can be no doubt that I now have a mandate from the electorate to progress the SNT view at a Town Council level.
The majority of people do not want a single joint faith voluntary aided primary school in Ventnor. They do not want to see the closure of their Middle School and most of all they do not want to see Ventnor’s eleven year olds being bussed to schools in Newport.
I will make this clear to the Town Council at the earliest opportunity. However, it is also important that people understand that being a Town Councillor is a separate and more wide ranging role from that of Education Campaigner and I hope to be a positive influence for all the residents that I represent, whatever their views, on all manner of subjects and issues affecting the town.
I am also acutely aware that my predecessor Brenda Lawson, for whom I had tremendous respect, was very hard working and has set a high standard for me to aim at. I hope I can live up to people’s expectations. I will do my best and I look forward to serving the people of Ventnor East.”
