Earlier this year, Wightlink announced that they would be dropping their Christmas Day crossings between Fishbourne and Portsmouth.
Many people have family on the mainland that they want to spend Christmas with, but can’t leave the Island on Christmas Eve, so have relied in the past, on the Christmas Day ferry crossings.
According to Red Funnel, once the Wightlink announcement was made, they received numerous requests to put on a Christmas Day crossing.
New crossings confirmed
Anyone who normally uses the Christmas Day crossing will be pleased to hear that Red Funnel have stepped into the breach and are offering two crossings from the Island and two from Southampton with their passenger vehicle ferry on Christmas Day.
Jonathan Green, Sales & Marketing Director commented, “Following the announcement of the withdrawal of the Christmas Day service between Fishbourne and Portsmouth earlier this year, Red Funnel has received numerous requests for a service from Islanders and their mainland friends and family.
“We are therefore pleased to be able to offer a passenger vehicle service on a trial basis for 2011, if successful; it is likely to be repeated in future years.”
