Following the news that Cabinet members, Roger Mazillius and Dawn Cousins will not be standing in the local elections next year, Barry Abraham has confirmed that after 26 years as a councillor on the Isle of Wight, he will not stand again in 2013.
Cllr Abraham told On The Wight, “Yes it is quite correct, I am standing down from the next election in May 2013. I will have done 26 years as a Councillor whether parish, borough or Isle of Wight Council by next years election.
“As you might know we have a couple of family businesses that I am heavily involved in and this lead me to stand down from the cabinet earlier in the year.
“The last few years have been quite tough for local government which has lead to some of the decisions that have had to be made and I know that they have not been universally popular but when you are a councillor in a leading position you do have to make decisions and you are not going to be able to please everybody.”
Also standing down in 2013 will be Cllr Tim Hunter-Henderson.
