Cold spell set to sweep the UK this weekend, Met Office advises

It’s time to pack away the shorts (yes, we have seen people still wearing them) and dig out your hats and scarves, as a significant shift in the weather is expected this weekend.

The Met Office has warned of a cold spell with potential disruptions in some areas next week.

Dry start for the South
Although Friday has brought dry conditions and sunshine to southern parts of the UK there is a chance of frost and fog overnight.

A band of rain will journey southward on Saturday, with colder air behind it, extending to southern regions by Saturday night, marking a clear transition to wintry conditions.

Cold air from the Arctic arrives Sunday
By Sunday it will be time to switch to your winter quilt, as the Met Office say even colder air will arrive from the Arctic, starting in northern Scotland.

The weather will turn unsettled for all parts of the UK as an area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic.

Keep an eye on weather updates over the weekend as conditions evolve, particularly if you have travel plans or are in areas prone to frost or fog.
