Community & Family Learning Courses: NewportCommunity Learning Courses don’t take place just in Ventnor, there are courses the Island over.

We’ll be bringing you the other areas later today, in the meantime, here is what Newport has to offer.

KNITTING WORKSHOP
Learn basic knitting stitches, choosing yarns and reading patterns. Make something simple but unique
e.g a small purse, fingerless gloves or a scarf. Have fun with modern and traditional yarns and materials.

No experience necessary. All materials are provided.

INTRODUCTION TO FELTMAKING
The course will cover flat and 3D aspects of felt making and the various fibres and wools that can be
used. Learn new techniques and produce decorative hangings, jewellery and a small vessel. No experience necessary and all materials are provided.

POTTERY
Offering relaxed fun sessions for those wishing to experiment with clay. Develop skills in hand built
pottery, exploring coloured slips and texture. Make individual items from your own ideas.
This course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience.

EASTER CRAFTS
Come and make individual and creative crafts for Easter. Make an Easter table decoration using natural objects and paper flowers, make marbled eggs and Easter cards. No experience necessary. All materials provided.

MONEYTALK
Adults only
A course for dads, mums, carers and grandparents which will include an activity with your child. This is an introduction to money from managing a family budget, saving energy, bargain hunting, saving for a rainy day, spotting the scams and planning a family trip. During the course, we will have speakers from a variety of services attending and sharing their expertise in money matters.

DRAWING, PRINTING AND PAINTING
A multi-media art course using a variety of paper, paints, pencils, pastels and inks. Develop skills in basic drawing, sketching and painting techniques as well as mono and block printing. You can develop one technique or combine techniques to produce a final piece on a theme of your choice. This course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some previous experience. All materials provided.

NCFE ENTRY LEVEL CERTIFICATE IN ICT
Come and learn how to use a computer in a small and supportive group. Progress from switching a computer on, to using the internet, sending an e-mail and basic word processing and much more. Come out with a nationally recognised entry level qualification and a certificate!

INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP
A 6 week course to explore the world of Photoshop in a series of structured activities. Develop skills in file management, basic tools, understanding of layers and text and simple manipulation of images. Edit
and adjust your photographs or scanned images and produce stunning digital effects. Basic computer skills are required.

PAINTED BAGS
Create beautiful designs for a variety of cotton bags. Learn to use a range of fabric paints and markers.
