It seems that the County Press/Platform One Live Wired Competition Finals that took place this week have caused a bit of a stir on the Island music scene.
As readers will remember, VB were first with the news that Majortones had taken first prize in the Live Wired Competition on Wednesday night.
The decision of the judges to choose Majortones for the top spot caused outrage amongst many, as the band had only the week before secured their slot at the Isle of Wight Festival when they were voted by judges as the best band in the Battle of the Bands competition.
Lee Bartholomew from Majortones told VB readers yesterday that the band had intended to extract themselves from the Live Wired competition, but were talked into staying by Platform One.
Thinking they’d simply be staying to make up the numbers, they went ahead and treated the comp as just playing another set for their loyal fans.
Lee says that they were as shocked and surprised as everyone else to hear that they’d won again and agreed that it seemed unfair.
Rather gallantly (what lovely chaps they are), they’ve decided to pass on the prize of playing a second set at the Isle of Wight Festival onto the runner up of the competition.
So it likes like either The Kurves, Proximity Effect or Cozy Flaskbak will be making their way to Isle of Wight Festival this year hoping to gain some new fans.
Lee went onto the say that it looked as though the judges of the Live Wired competition had chosen in their wisdom to ignore the politics of the situation, which led to the bad feeling amongst many.

Well done to all the lads in Majortones. Your actions were very noble and we hope you have a wicked time playing the festival. You deserve it.
