Councillor Clare Mosdell announces re-election bid for Isle of Wight council in 2025

The new leader of the Isle of Wight Conservative Group at County Hall, Councillor Clare Mosdell, has confirmed today (Friday) she will stand again for re-election in May 2025, after previously suggesting she would not.

As reported by News OnTheWight, at a full council meeting earlier this year, Councillor Mosdell was heard calling out several times the number of ‘sleeps’ she had left before the end of her term.

Elected by the association
Following a vote within the Isle of Wight Conservative Association last night (Thursday), Councillor Clare Mosdell, the representative for Newchurch, Havenstreet and Ashey, has been appointed to represent the Conservatives on the Isle of Wight council.

The Alliance Administration remains in charge of the authority after a close leadership contest in September saw the Conservatives narrowly miss out.

Councillor Mosdell has taken over the reins of the Alliance’s main opposition, following Councillor Suzie Ellis’s resignation as group leader after four months in the position.

Mosdell: Will provide ‘strong and eloquent leadership’
In a statement, Councillor Mosdell said she is honoured to be voted as the new group leader and has given her assurance to those who believe in her that not only will she provide ‘strong and eloquent leadership’, but she will also stand again.

Cllr Mosdell, who has been on the authority since May 2017, said,

“My main priority is to ensure each group member can be given the best platforms available to represent the residents of their wards and that communication is improved across the whole council.

“Any motion to full council will be meaningful and beneficial to Island residents.

“I believe in democracy and all voices and opinions should be heard for well-balanced decisions to be made, for now and the future of the Island and all that reside here.”
