A Solent exercise yesterday (Friday) evening by Cowes RNLI lifeboat turned into something more serious when coastguards were alerted to an incident of a man seen in the sea at Ryde.
When the lifeboat eventually arrived on the scene, near the hovercraft terminal, it used flares and its powerful search-light in a comprehensive search.
Treated on shore
Eventually, the man was reported to have reached the shore and to have received treatment in an ambulance.
Also at the scene were coastguards from Bembridge and Ventnor.
