Cowes Torquay 2013 powerboat results

If you saw – or more likely heard – the Powerboats racing from the Island to Torquay on the Mainland and back yesterday, you might well be interested in the results.

That was the case with Betty who called OnTheWight today after not being able to find the Cowes Torquay 2013 results online. She’d been on the Island with her grandson, who normally lives in West Sussex, and he was very keen to find out the results.

53rd Cowes Classic Powerboat Race
The day kicked off for the 53rd Cowes Classic Powerboat Race with the competitors at a weather briefing at the Royal Yacht Squadron at 7am, followed by the official race start – the Cowes to Torquay leg – scheduled for 9am. Amazingly the boats started arriving at just after ten past ten at Haldon Pier, Torquay.

The winner of the first leg, ‘Going Lean’, piloted by Dean Gibbs and Dave Brown, was at certain points travelling at over 100mph. Their average speed on the first leg being 88mph.

The return leg started from Haldon Pier at just after 2pm. Prize giving kicked off at 7:30pm at the Royal Yacht Squadron.
