Update 13/1/11: VB published this report in good faith that the information was being provided first hand. We wrote to the Cowes Town Clerk yesterday morning asking for clarification and have followed it up with a phone call today, but we’ve still not heard back from them. The author of the article now informs us that she had been passed incorrect information, so we have updated the article below as necessary. Ed

Thanks to Angela McMurty, Secretary Friends of Northwood House & Park, for this report from last night’s Cowes Town Council Finance meeting. Ed

The Cut in CowesAt last night’s Cowes Town Council Finance and Town Improvements Committee, those present voted not to support Northwood House and Park in any shape or form financially.

The Trustees for Northwood House had asked for funding to help maintain the children’s playground but all requests for help were officially rejected.

The councillor leading the anti-Northwood House delegation was Cllr Willie Sanderson.

£50,000 ring-fenced for The Cut
The same council, according to their own Website have ring fenced £50,000 for improving The Cut.

It’s felt that at the very least, the Cowes Town Council should have consulted with the wider community before making this decision.

There was also concern at Cllr George Brown’s absence from the meeting.

(We have written to Cowes Town Council requesting a comment. Ed)
