The Isle of Wight Council is once again supporting Cowes Week, providing operational support throughout the regatta and organising Friday’s fireworks display.
The best vantage points from which to view the Red Arrows at 7pm and fireworks display at 9.30pm are Prince’s Green, Cowes and East Cowes seafront; people are asked to make use of these areas wherever possible.
The display can also be seen from Cowes Parade but due to structures located there that are a key part of the overall Cowes Week event, numbers will be limited and people wanting to watch the fireworks from this area will be counted in and out from 6pm onwards.
To reduce traffic congestion people are advised to make use of public transport where possible, although additional parking is being made available at Cowes High School (Crossfield Avenue) and the Isle of Wight Community Club (off Park Road). Extra parking facilities are also being provided at Victoria Grove Recreation Grounds in East Cowes.
At 3.30pm on Friday 6 August, Fountain Yard, where the Red Jet terminal is located, will be closed to all vehicles so that a queuing system can be put in place for people travelling back to the mainland after the display. It will be open to vehicles again as normal on Saturday morning.
Cowes Chain Ferry will operate a pedestrian-only service between 6pm and 11pm, with vehicles diverted via Newport. There will be restrictions to the number of people allowed on the chain ferry at any one time so a queuing system will be in operation from 6pm. Extra overnight services are being provided; the usual back-and-forth operation will extend until 2am. After this there will be each-way services at approximately 2.20am, 2.40am and the last one at 3am. The service resumes at 5am for its usual continuous service.
