Sad news reaches us about a woman who fell overboard and died on Sunday when returning from a two day cruise on board the Oceana to Zeebrugge, Belgium.
Her body was found near Cowes by the Lifeboat.
Her husband raised the alarm when the 67 year old wasn’t seen after she left their cabin at 5:45. The alarm was raised at 6:50am with the Solent Coatguard.
Huge amounts of effort was put into the search by the Coastguard. They immediately launched a sea search and requested the launch of Calshot RNLI inshore and all weather lifeboats, scrambled Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Lee on Solent and sent Coastguard Rescue Teams to join the search from Southampton and Hillhead. Southampton harbour patrol boat also joined the search.
Her body was recovered from the water near Cowes in Thorne Channel in mid Solent at 7.14am by the Calshot RNLI lifeboat.
The casualty was transferred to the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and airlifted to Southampton Hospital.
