As we Tweeted last night, two people went over the edge of Culver Cliffs in a car last night. This below came in from the Police this morning, in their own words, including details of the car, possibily from the Island, that they’re interested in finding out more about – Ed
Detectives on the Isle of Wight are today continuing their investigation after a man and a woman died when their car went over a cliff near Bembridge.
Officers were called around 8pm yesterday, Wednesday, August 17 after reports a car had gone over Culver Cliffs between Bembridge and Sandown with two people inside.
Possibly from the Island
Emergency services attended the scene and the body of a man and woman were recovered from an upturned car at the bottom of the cliffs. The couple who died are thought to be in their 40s and 50s and from the Island but official identification has not yet taken place and next of kin are still to be informed.
Police are now investigating the circumstances which led to the incident. A post mortem is expected to be held later today and officers will also be looking to recover the vehicles from the bottom of the cliffs at some stage today. Officers have the beach and the cliff top currently cordoned off while they investigate. Officers say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Appeal for info on car
They are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incident involving the couple in a blue small MPV type car in the top car park at Culver Cliffs and are appealing for any witnesses to call the Operation Brocklesby Team at Newport CID on 101.
