Daft Old Duffer returns to VB. See what he has to say about those who hunt foxes for fun. Ed
The Tories intend repealing the Hunting Ban.
I really don’t care very much one way or the other. But I think on the Island at least, it might be a good thing.
I can’t recall that much of a slaughter among foxes at any time in the past. In fact the whole charade seemed to me nothing more than a jolly good workout for all concerned – from fox to hound to horse to rider.
I remember one happy occasion when the ‘hunted’ fox trotted casually right across the middle of a large open field, watched by all but the hunt, who could be seen on a distant horizon, charging along in entirely the wrong direction.
I swear Rufus turned his head towards us and grinned.
I recall another outing when the fox, so disgusted at the ease of his escape, turned back and skirted the hounds close enough to give them another go. And still they couldn’t catch the little blighter.
Of much greater concern to me, is the way in which the huntmasters lay into the hounds with their whips at every conceivable opportunity.
So, bring back hunting, give everyone interested a bullwhip and make the huntmaster the prey.
That should be fun.
