Delivery van driver assaulted Christmas Eve: Police appeal

Police are appealing for information after a delivery van driver was assaulted in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

It happened between 11.45am and 12pm on Christmas Eve (Wednesday, December 24) when the driver was returning to his van parked in St. David’s Road.

He saw a man trying the driver’s door handle of the van. When this man was challenged about his behaviour, he assaulted the driver.

No injuries and no stolen property were reported at the scene.

The driver, a man aged in his 40s, was able to fend off his attacker and drive away in the van.

Suspects description
A suspect was described as:

A white man
Aged in his 30s to 40s
5 ft 10 ins tall
Medium to stocky build

He was wearing a black woolly hat, black jacket, black gloves and dark trousers.
