Dr Simon Harrison, a Bonchurch resident and the Chair of Creative Island — the Island’s cultural development agency — has been appointed as one of eight leading figures tasked with accelerating the UK’s clean power agenda.
Dr Harrison is a prominent advocate for the role of engineering in advancing the energy transition and decarbonisation. His influence in public policy around these subjects is widely recognised, and in 2023, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a distinguished honour in the field.
Dr Harrison will contribute his expertise to the Clean Power 2030 Advisory Commission, which is pivotal in shaping the UK government’s mission to deliver clean power by 2030.
Developing a Clean Power 2030 system
The Commission is set to advise Chris Stark, the Head of Mission Control, on developing a Clean Power 2030 system. The forthcoming Clean Power 2030 Action Plan will outline the necessary steps to decarbonise the UK’s electricity grid, with a focus on reducing reliance on volatile gas prices and bolstering the nation’s energy security.
The Government say this initiative is critical in addressing the climate crisis, while offering protection to billpayers from fluctuating energy costs.
