Dragon stolen on the Isle of Wight

When we first saw this headline – Dragon stolen on the Isle of Wight – we wondered if the Police comms email account had been hacked, or if had been cross-posted from the Welsh Police force.

Neither it turns out. It’s about the theft of a garden ornament from a house in Apse Heath.

Of course to the people who have lost it, the incident is unwelcome, so for that reason, here’s the information about the theft, in the hope that readers can help reunite the non-fire-breathing dragon with its owners.

Police are appealing for information after a distinctive garden ornament was stolen from outside a house on the Isle of Wight.

A terracotta dragon was stolen from the garden of an address in Newport Road in Apse Heath overnight between 3pm on Monday, 20th May and 2.20pm on Wednesday, 22nd May.

The dragon was described as being in a seated position with one front paw missing.

It is about four-ft high, two-ft long and 18 ins wide. It was once painted red, but most of the paint has now flaked off.

The dragon has its mouth open with its tongue sticking out.

Police believe it would have taken at least two people to move the dragon.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact Shanklin Police Station by phoning 101. Mini-com users can phone 01962 875000. Alternatively, call the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.
