East Cowes arson spree: Man arrested after a house fire and series of vehicle fires

Officers investigating an arson series in East Cowes have arrested a man.

The incidents occurred between 14th July 2022 and 16th June this year, with almost a dozen vehicles suspected of being deliberately set alight in the York Avenue, Mayfield Road, Victoria Grove and Kent Avenue areas.

In the most recent incident, a fire occurred at a house in Princess Close.

The total estimated damage for all of these incidents combined is around £350-400,000.

56-year-old man arrested
The North East Wight Neighbourhoods Policing Team, with support from CID, have been following up all available lines of enquiry into these incidents, and today (Friday 1st September) a 56-year-old man from East Cowes was arrested on suspicion of arson.

He remains in custody at this time.
