The Environment Agency has updated the current flood alert for the Eastern Yar (first issued yesterday).
The update, issued at 3pm today (Thursday) reads:
The water level in the Eastern Yar is high and rising at Alverstone. In the last 12 hours, 10mm of rain has been recorded at Knighton.
Today (Thursday 07/12/23) and tomorrow (Friday 08/12/23) the river will continue to flood low lying land, access and cycle tracks, gardens and roads throughout the Yar valley.
Rain, heavy at times, is forecast for the rest of the afternoon, but should clear the area by 19:00 this evening. A further 10-25mm could fall within this time.
At Alverstone, the river will rise throughout the evening and is unlikely to peak until the early hours of Friday morning (08/12/23).
At Sandown, it may not peak until early Friday afternoon. Currently, minor impact flooding is expected. Bembridge sluice is operating normally. We continue to monitor the forecast.
