The Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce are encouraging businesses on the Island to register for a free conference being held next month in Ryde.
Taking place at Yelfs Hotel, the aim of the conference is to inform and advise businesses on taking positive steps to reduce waste, minimise their carbon footprint, and make cost savings. Something that many people will be keen to do with the impending economic downturn.
The conference has been organised in partnership with the Chamber, Business Link and the National Industrial Symbiosis programme.
Business Link’s Deborah Wyatt said:
‘When money is getting tight there are many ways in which being more environmentally friendly will really help your bottom line. Cutting even a few hundred pounds of costs from your business – and this need not affect the level of customer service you offer – is equivalent to thousands of pounds of extra sales. The current economic climate requires us to be wise spenders both as individuals and business people, and we can all make a difference.”
Business Link have provided some easy to follow steps to help reduce your company’s carbon footprint as well as reducing costs
· Switch off computers, lights and high-energy guzzlers. These basic steps can cut energy costs by 10-20%.
· Consider investing in new, more efficient equipment, as older pieces may use more energy. You may be eligible for a Carbon Trust interest-free loan.
· Make sure that all deliveries or sales team routes are carefully planned.
· Try to substitute some of your client face-to-face meetings for web-based video conference calls.
· Consider a one day a week working from home, which can often improve productivity and motivation.
· Strive to be a paperless office.
