International dance act duo, Dead Lights, and are set to play two shows on the Isle of Wight next week to coincide with the release their new single and music video ‘I Am Electric’.
The band, comprising of Island-based musician Saul Strange and Netherlands-based artist Richard van Kruysdjik, formed during the pandemic and recently signed to a new record label, the German-based ‘darkTunes Music Group’, following the glowing reception of their self-titled debut album and follow-up EP.
Ending ten-day tour on the Island
Dead Lights have have recently wrapped up a ten-date European tour with Canadian electro-rock act, Front Line Assembly, but have so far been unable to play on the Isle of Wight, despite one of the members living here.
Saul says,
“The logistics of us playing shows on the Island are frustratingly complicated, due to Richard needing to travel from the Netherlands. Mainland UK shows are easier for us as we can do a full tour and spread the cost, but that little stretch of water can be prohibitively expensive for smaller bands to reach the Island with a van full of equipment. Regardless, it’s finally going to happen!
“We’d like to give a massive shout out and thanks to the staff at Strings and Kashmir Cafe for going out of their way to accommodate us and giving us the opportunity to finally play on the Island! It’s going to be cool to see familiar faces at a Dead Lights show!”
Robotic collaboration
The duo filmed their new music video in the Netherlands and collaborated with Dutch robotics company ‘Event Robotics’.
The video features the use of two, large industrial robot arms that were programmed specifically for the band by their creator, Rick Van Dugteren, moving and rotating around the musicians as they perform.
Saul says,
“It’s certainly the most epic music video we’ve done yet! It’s suitably cyberpunk, and it’s definitely something you don’t see very often. We hope people enjoy it!”
