The UK Coastguard responded to an incident at Spitbank Fort in the Solent last night (Monday) after reports of a fire.

It was reported to the Coastguard just before 5.30pm yesterday (14th March) and lifeboats from Gosport, Portsmouth and Bembridge were sent to the fort in case the people there needed to be evacuated. The Coastguard Rescue Team from Portsmouth was also tasked.

Fire out within 30 mins
However, within 15 minutes of the first report, managers on the fort, which is used as a hotel, told the emergency services that the fire was understood to be under control and by 6pm it was out.

Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service assisted in the transportation of Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service crews to the fort so they could assess the site.
