Future Creatives Careers Week, organised by the Isle of Wight Cultural Education Partnership, will return for its second year, running from 3rd to 7th February 2025.
This event offers a variety of free workshops, talks and presentations to inspire and motivate young people to explore careers in the creative industries.
Opportunities for all ages
The week-long event welcomes primary, secondary and post-16 pupils. Participants can explore different creative fields, including architecture and digital media.
Pupils will have the opportunity to interact with professionals, engage in hands-on experiences and learn about potential career paths available both on and off the Isle of Wight.
Growing importance of creative industries
The creative sector is one of the fastest-growing in the UK. It employs more than three million people, equating to one in 14 jobs nationwide.
Last year, more than 900 young Islanders participated in Future Creatives Careers Week, showcasing the increasing interest in these fields.
Broader reach through new partnerships
The 2025 event will feature over 50 different roles. These will include both traditional artistic disciplines and unexpected sectors like the NHS, which benefits from creative input.
This year, 16 new organisations will join 15 returning participants, ensuring a wide range of opportunities for attendees.
Hands-on workshops for all educational stages
Throughout the week, pupils will participate in workshops designed for their age group, from Key Stage 1 to post-16.
Younger children will enjoy activities like costume design and storytelling. Older pupils will have the chance to explore careers in music, film, and digital history.
Unique industry insights
Workshops will extend beyond traditional arts. For example, New Carnival will teach event management skills, from planning to production.
The Shipwreck Centre will provide an introduction to careers in scuba diving, blending practical activities with historical context.
Accessible and free for all
Arts Council England’s support ensures that all events during Future Creatives Careers Week are completely free.
Workshops will take place in schools and various industry venues across the Island, making participation straightforward for schools.
Transport options are available at reduced rates for schools needing assistance.
Encouraging creative careers for Island pupils
Future Creatives Careers Week aims to show young people the range of creative jobs available. It demonstrates that a career in the creative industries is possible while living on the Isle of Wight.
Claire Paul, from the Isle of Wight Cultural Education Partnership, says,
“It’s about raising awareness of the huge variety of creative careers available — and that being based on the Island is no barrier to success.”
Inspiring future generations
The week promises to inspire young Islanders, showcasing the wealth of opportunities available locally and beyond.
