The annual Bonchurch Open Gardens event returns on 6th and 7th July, offering a unique opportunity to explore private oases in this historic village. 

Key Highlights 

  • Secret Gardens: For two days only, visitors can wander through 17 private gardens, each revealing its own distinct character. From inventive planting to unique design, these hidden gems showcase the best of Bonchurch. 
  • Historic Connections: Bonchurch has long been favoured by famous island residents & visitors, including Swinburne, Dickens, Thackeray, Tennyson, Keats, and even Gandhi. Immerse yourself in the same landscapes that inspired these literary greats. 
  • Exotic Plants: Unusual and exotic plants thrive against the backdrop of period architecture and stunning landscapes. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or simply appreciate natural beauty, these gardens won’t disappoint. 
  • Plant Sales: Garden enthusiasts can purchase plants from an established plantsman and explore progeny from prized specimens cultivated by local gardeners. 
  • Cream Tea Tradition: Don’t miss the chance to savour an old-fashioned strawberry cream tea on Spring Vale lawn, nestled in the heart of the village. 
  • Ticket Details: Tickets, priced at £5.00, grant access to all 16 participating gardens for both days. A detailed map and a free shuttle bus are included. Purchase tickets at the Village Pond Gate or the Cream Tea Garden on Village Road (look for the Large Yellow Banner). 
  • Charitable Contribution: A portion of ticket sales will support local charities, making this event even more meaningful.
