The Isle of Wight Council is commending the achievements of young Islanders gaining A Level results, technical qualifications, and apprenticeships – particularly in the face of challenges caused by Covid-19 over the last 18 months.
Andre: Students have shown, once again, resilience and strength
Cabinet lead for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, Cllr Debbie Andre, said,
“We are extremely proud of our Post-16 students who have shown, once again, resilience and strength.
“They have continued to work hard throughout the pandemic and all the disruptions that has brought.
“I would like to congratulate all of the students on their hard work during unprecedented times and how they have responded to those challenges. I also wish to thank the tutors and employers who have shown determination and compassion in supporting these young people through their studies and apprenticeships.
“Families and carers can also feel very proud of the increased support they have also had to give our young people over the past year.”
Further achievements
Determining final A Level results and securing technical qualifications is important for young people to be able to move on to higher education, apprenticeships, and other work placed training opportunities.
Cllr Andre added,
“On behalf of the council, I wish post-16 students the greatest success. We want all students to go on to further achievements, whether that is university, starting an apprenticeship, or employment.”

On results day (Tuesday 10th August) and on Wednesday 11th August, Island Futures – the Isle of Wight Council’s careers advice service for young people – will also be operating an A level phone line, between 9am and 5pm, that young people can call for advice: 01983 823888 or email [email protected].
Students who may be feeling uncertain, anxious or stressed about the future as they move on to university, employment or other training can also seek support from Young Minds, who will help to encourage them to look after their mental health and identify when to ask for help.
