Facebook Group Supporting Neil Young As Festival Headliner Launched

Facebook Group Supporting Neil Young As Festival Headliner LaunchedShortly after we published the piece about the reaction of people on Twitter to the Isle of Wight headliners, we were pointed to a new Facebook group “Neil Young is an amazing choice to Headline The IOW festival!”.

The group has gained members quickly, with 44 people having signed up already.

Neil Young’s influence
Neil Young is undeniably a huge name in the last fifty years of musical history.

His influence has been considerable, starting during his early days in the sixties and extending until today, indeed he is referred to as “the Godfather of Grunge” because of the influence he had on Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder and the entire grunge movement.

Isle of Wight Festival organiser, John Giddings, is clearly a long term fan, as we reported when Neil Young as Headliner was announced, “I have tried every year since we restarted the event to book Neil Young. His music is part of my life and has inspired generations ever since. I’m sure that his performance will be talked about for years to come”.

If you’re a fan, go and show your support to Neil Young at the Facebook group.

To get some idea of the depth of his music and his influence, you’ll find lots of info on his Wikipedia page.

For those who don’t know about the depth of Neil Young, you might, like us, follow the path of daviesben, “looking forward to educating myself in the ways of Neil Young before the Isle of Wight festival.”

According to The Times today

Almost 40 years late Neil Young will finally headline the final night of the Isle of Wight festival. The folk hero arrived for the legendary 1970 festival in a white Rolls Royce by ferry, but he met such a barrage of harassment from police that he turned round and drove back on to the ferry, never to return. The island’s tourism bosses promise a warmer welcome in June.
