Farmersboy Remembered: A VB Forum Legend, A Year On

It was a year ago today that the sad news of the death of one of the VentnorBlog forum contributors had died was announced online.

Farmersboy Remembered: A VB Forum Legend, A Year OnFarmersBoy – Derek Williams as he was more normally know – had been a member of the VB Forum for over two years and in that time had contributed over 1,100 posts.

His views were definitely his own, attracting an equal number of supporters and detractors, which varied depending on the subject that he wrote about.

Anonymous
He fastidiously kept his VB Forum identity anonymous – so much so that even his friend next door, a fellow Forum user, didn’t know until he died (here’s more that we wrote at the time).

The huge number of people at his funeral paid a massive testament to how well-known and popular he was in Ventnor. Many people told us there how he was always willing to help people out and get projects going.

VB Forum contribution
Of course, his humour will be preserved through his VB Forum posts.

Of particular note was the A Lighter Moment thread that he started when the Forum dipped into a quiet period after the granting of planning permission to Cheetah Marine.

It’s lived on, having more than 100,000 views, holding a VB Forum record for a single thread.

Our thoughts go out to his family and we’ll raise a glass to his memory tonight.

Thanks to BigEars for point this out to us.
