Philippines typhoon:

Find out how you can help following the Philippines typhoon disaster

Cowes Rotary Club is on a massive drive to help the people of the Philippines in their hour of need after the terrible devastation by the typhoon.

The club members will be on the streets of Cowes on Saturday 16th November to collect as much money as they can.

Island-wide licence
John Hamar, Club President, has obtained a special general street collection licence for Rotary Clubs to be out all over the Island so the public will have a good chance to contribute to this vital cause.

The public are invited to call 297472 for information about the collection and how to make larger private donations to the fund.

Great track record
The Rotary organisation has a wonderful record of getting help to the needy where it is needed and very fast too. It is likely that much of this fund at the beginning will be to help supplying essential drinking water.

Rotary is already organising delivery of water aid packages that can purify polluted water supplies.

The Rotary organisation is already in full swing and overcoming the difficulty of communications in the disaster area to make contact with Rotarians living there who can immediately arrange distribution of essentials.

Every penny goes to the relief
Remember, because Rotary is a service organisation, every penny goes in relief. Direct donation to Rotary involves no administrative expenses, no big salaries to be taken out. Our own members who helped with the 2004 Tsunami travelled at their own expense. All the funds donated are processed by volunteers.

It was within Rotary that ‘Shelter Box’ and ‘Aquabox’ were originally conceived and now, wherever possible, Rotarians source all equipment from non-profit organisations.
