Fire at school was suspected arson say police

Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspected arson at The Island Learning Centre, at Berry Hill, Sandown on the Isle of Wight early this morning (July 17).

Officers were called to the scene at around 12.25am after a school mini bus caught fire, which spread to the school, causing extensive damage to the whole school building.

DI John Stirling, who is investigating the incident, said:

“We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the fire, or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, between 11.30pm last night (July 16) and 12.15am this morning (July 17).”

Police have this morning been carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area of the school.
