English National league ice hockey champions Wightlink Raiders have wasted no time in signing their first four players for the 2011-2012 season.
First to agree terms last week was player coach Jeremy Cornish who returns for his third season as Raiders coach. The 31 year old Canadian is a former Elite league enforcer and led the Raiders to their first silverware in 14 years last season.
Three more confirmed for ENL champions
As well as picking up the ENL title and Raiders Cup his team also reached the championship play off final for the second successive year.
Cornish has since moved quickly to secure the services of three forwards from his title winning side. 21 year old Nathan Taylor returns for his second season with the Raiders after impressing on the first line this season.
Also back are two Island trained forwards who both had great seasons this year. Richard Facey scored 21 goals in his 37 appearances and is back for the new campaign. He’ll be joined by fiesty forward Steve Gosset who is a former Sandown High School pupil and IOW junior player.
The new season will start in September and the club hope to announce more signings in the next couple of weeks.
