FixMyStreet: A great, open way to report issues you see on the Isle of Wight

There’s a really quick and easy way to report things that you see around the Isle of Wight that need attention – it’s called Fix My Street.

OnTheWight has long been enthusiastic about FixMystreet.

Free and easy to use
The site/service – which is free to use – has had an upgrade, making it even easier to use, so thought we’d use that as an excuse to remind you of it, in case it’s slipped from you mind.

Reporting a relevant issue – eg Potholes; Dog fouling; Street lights not turning on; flooding street drains; dangerous corners, due to overgrown bushes; etc – you can either click on the map, or just type in the name of the road, or postcode of the area where there’s an issue and pop a few details in. You can even add a photo.

Clicking ‘Submit’ stores the detail on the system and fires an email off to the relevant authority.

Think of it as doing you bit to help make the Island as good as it can be.

Great on a mobile
If you’re out and about when you see something that could do with fixing, the FixMyStreet Web site has been tuned for Smartphone use – it’ll even try and figure out where you are, if you let it.

As the report progresses, you can update on the site, or, if the issue has been solved, you can mark it as Fixed, saving the time of the body charged with fixing it.

Visible to all
FixMyStreet brings the extra advantage that the issues that are raised are viewable online, for all to see, rather than a closed system, that is hidden from view.

It being freely-readable on the Internet, brings the added advantage – the council, or other relevant services, don’t end up having the same issue reported twice.

Everyone wins!
