broken down Floating Bridge by Glenn Johnson

Floating bridge out of action (again) (updated)

The Cowes Floating Bridge is currently suspended after breaking down earlier this afternoon (Friday).

A launch service for foot passengers and cyclists is now in operation.

Update:
The council issued two more updates on Friday evening, as follows:

The floating bridge will remain out of action this weekend (27-30 August) whilst a fault is investigated. A launch service for foot passengers and cyclists will be in operation. We will issue an update next week giving further information.

Then a little later, this update:

The floating bridge remains out of service. Engineers have now identified that the fault is related to a drive motor.

Further investigation is being undertaken and we will give an update next week.

The reason for the suspension has not been given. NewsOnTheWight reader, Glenn Johnson, tweeted us just before 4pm with this pic of the bridge stuck in the middle of the Medina River.

The council tweeted that the bridge will be out of action for the rest of the day until repairs can be undertaken on Friday morning.
